Have you ever had a knot of tension in your back that is tender to the touch or rub? And then you feel tightness, pain, swelling, or numbness in the affected area? The issue is most likely trigger points. Trigger Points are muscular tight bands that can be felt as a knot. The knot forms when muscle fibers constrict under stress, exertion, or pressure. Under the right circumstances, there are approximately 620 different points in the human body that can be trigger points.
Muscles can bunch up suddenly, forming knot-like lumps, when movements, exercise, sports training, overexertion, or even stress become too much. Many patients can feel the lumps, which are tender and can swell. These are trigger points, and even if you don't remember what caused them, the muscles were triggered to bunch up at a certain point. These trigger points can reduce blood flow to the area of muscle tissue they are located in. This allows scar tissue to enter your muscles. You will begin to experience pain, which can be severe, and the trigger point will obstruct healing of both the muscle and/or dysfunctional joint.
Trigger points can limit movement, cause muscle weakness, and result in referred or radiating pain. Our trigger point injections are performed to promote muscle healing in dysfunctional muscles. They are very effective in the rehabilitation process and only take a few minutes.
Some trigger points can be excruciatingly painful for patients, especially if they have been dealing with them for a long time. We can use various trigger point therapy techniques to massage the knots out of your muscles. Even if the trigger point area is extremely painful, deep-tissue treatment may be required. Because the medicine promotes faster healing in your dysfunctional muscle, injections are sometimes used to help with pain.
We perform a variety of joint injections, including knee and sacroiliac joint injections. The knee injections use hyaluronic acid, which is essentially a vitamin injection for the knee cartilage. It is intended to lubricate and relieve pain. Hyaluronic acid also promotes normal cartilage healing and can be used to alleviate knee osteoarthritis pain. If you have other joint conditions, you can help them all at once because hyaluronic acid promotes normal cartilage healing and pain relief from conditions like osteoarthritis.
For trigger points, you'd get a nerve injection to relax the nerves in your tissue that are causing you pain. Joint injections are administered in the painful joint. An injection provides immediate pain relief, and we try to treat the problem with the most natural medicines possible.
Do you have back pain that isn't caused by trigger points? To be certain, come in for a consultation.
